Kate's Pancake House was originally a drive thru Tastee Freeze in the 50's. Today Kate's is a favorite breakfast spot for both local and visitors to the island. This mural celebrates the Venus Flytrap. The Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) is a carnivorous plant native to subtropical wetlands on the East Coast of the United States in North Carolina and South Carolina. The Venus Flytrap catches its prey—chiefly insects and arachnids —with a trapping structure formed by the terminal portion of each of the plant's leaves, which is triggered by tiny hairs (called "trigger hairs" or "sensitive hairs") on their inner surfaces. Carolina Beach is home to a huge population of these amazing plants. The artist will showcase the Venus Flytrap in a whimsical /fantastical style. This mural is fully sponsored by Kelly & Terry Wyckoff.
Tiffany Machler aka Nugget is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Wilmington, N.C. She has a longstanding passion for art and community involvement; she was a student at Carolina Beach Elementary School where she won the T-shirt design competition. That winning smile can be seen in a photo of her still hanging in the library of the school. Nugget currently serves on the board of the Carolina Beach Mural project and loves using her talents to help facilitate bringing more public art into the community for people to enjoy. This is an accomplishment that fills her with gratitude and a sense of coming full circle.
Upon completing her bachelor’s degree in painting from UNCW, she chose to remain in Wilmington to work towards building a thriving art scene for artists and community members alike. She has steadily continued creating studio paintings, completing commission pieces, and participating in live painting events. She is the owner and manager of Art by Nugget LLC, a custom artwork and mural design company. Additionally, she has either created or collaborated in the creation of dozens of murals in Wilmington and elsewhere. Some of her recent mural clients include Lowes Home Improvement and the Habitat for Humanity Restore.
Nugget recently opened 11oh9, an art gallery and venue located on 1109 S. 3rd St, Wilmington. She is pleased to be a destination on the Art’s Council of Wilmington’s 4th Friday Gallery Walks and thinks they found a perfect fit in the South Front Community.
Next on the horizon for Nugget is the official launch of Sip n’ Spray, a creative social experience that she is founding and refining in collaboration with Genesis Block Minority Business Accelerator. Sip n’ Spray was featured in the Cucalorus 10x10 Film Festival, which showcases local businesses, filmmakers, and film students. Also, Sip & Spray played an important role in getting the attention of Wilma Magazine. She is now a finalist in the arts category for the 2021 women to watch awards in the company of some amazing women!
